The Problem

Any of this sound familiar?

Some of these stop your ads running. The others stop them bringing in clients.

Verification

Ads that can't run until Google says so

Financial services ads can't serve until Google has verified the business against the register. A business name or registration number that differs from the register can fail the application.

Meanwhile, those ads don't run.

Automation

Performance Max writing your ads

Ad text assembled automatically from your website, then served without anyone at your business approving the wording.

An ad can mislead by omission. Nobody chose those words.

Compliance

Ads that say too little

Between Google's rules and your own compliance review, ads can end up so careful that nobody clicks them.

Approved, and still not working.

Measurement

Enquiries that never become clients

The form fills are up, but the client book isn't. Nobody can tell you which ads produced an actual first meeting.

You're paying for traffic, not clients.

The Rules

Four things a generalist won't know to check.

  1. Verification isn't admin. It's a switch.

Since 7 November 2024, Google has required Financial Services Verification to advertise financial services to people in New Zealand. Your details are matched against the regulators and registries Google names: the FSPR, the FMA, the Companies Office and NZICA. If you don't successfully complete the verification, your ads stop serving.

  2. The details have to match the register exactly.

Verification runs through G2RS, Google's external compliance partner, and the business information submitted must match your registry record exactly. An agency with admin access to your Google Ads account can submit it for you, as your authorised representative, using your business details.

  3. It can be requested again.

Google may ask you to renew verification, and a significant account change, such as a payments profile update, can trigger re-verification.

  4. The FMA judges the whole situation.

Under the fair dealing rules, an ad can mislead by omission, even when every statement in it is true. The FMA can also issue a stop order, without going to court, against advertising likely to confuse people on a material matter. That threshold sits below likely to mislead.

Policy positions on this page were checked in September 2026, and are Google's and the FMA's published positions at that date. Both of these are subject to change.

The Solution

Ads and pages that clear the rules and still bring in clients.

The FMA expects the disclosures to sit prominently on that same page, and expects the ad and the page to tell a consistent story, without room for confusion.

Verification handled for you

Submitted as your authorised representative, with the details checked against your registry record before anything is sent.

  • Registry details matched before submission.
  • Re-verification handled when the account changes.

Pages built to satisfy policy and performance

Disclosures placed where the rules require them, on a page still built to turn a click into an enquiry.

  • Compliant ads and pages, that still drive conversion.
  • Landing pages and ads tested with compliance measures.

Measured on qualified leads and revenue

An enquiry that never becomes a client costs the same as one that does. Tracking follows each enquiry past the form.

  • Conversion tracking checked before it's trusted.
  • Bidding set to optimise for customer value, instead of lead count.

The Process

Set up once, then optimised weekly.

See how it works in full

01

One-off

Research and plan

What you advise on, which searches are worth buying, and where verification and policy stand. All of it settled before campaigns are built.

02

Weekly

Build and run

Campaigns go live, then get worked on every week: search terms, budgets, tests, and any ad Google flags.

03

Monthly

Report and refine

A monthly report on spend, cost per lead and clients won. Changes are made from the data, not a hunch.
